Our Story

At Avila Dental, our story is rooted in care, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping people feel confident in their smiles. Dr. Gelsy Calvo has always believed dentistry should feel personal, not transactional. Known for her warm and friendly approach, she takes the time to truly listen to her patients, understand their concerns, and create a comfortable experience where people feel heard, respected, and supported. Her goal has never been just to treat teeth, but to build lasting relationships and help patients feel at ease every step of the way.

Dr. Calvo’s journey to becoming a trusted dentist serving the Chicago community reflects both dedication and perseverance. After earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Cienfuegos in Cuba, she moved to the United States with her family to continue pursuing her passion. She went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree with high honors from the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine. Committed to providing the highest level of care, she continues to stay current with modern advancements in dentistry through ongoing education, allowing her to offer a full range of services including preventive care, routine cleanings, cosmetic dentistry, restorative treatments, and more advanced procedures tailored to each patient’s needs.

Today, Avila Dental is built on the belief that great dentistry starts with trust. Every patient is treated with the same compassion and honesty as family. Whether a patient is coming in for a routine exam, teeth whitening, fillings, crowns, or more comprehensive dental work, the focus is always on long-term oral health, comfort, and confidence. Outside of the office, Dr. Calvo enjoys spending time with her fiancé, who is also a dentist, and their two dogs, Oliva and Zeus. She loves traveling, trying new restaurants, and spending time outdoors—bringing that same balance and positivity into the experience she creates for her patients every day.
